The BioBase4SME project – Bio-Innovation Support for Entrepreneurs throughout North-West Europe (NWE) regions
------------------------------------------------------------------------
tcbb RESOURCE is Ireland's partner in BioBase4SME, co-funded by the European Union's Interreg North-West Europe programme

We are the Irish partner in this EU InterReg NWE project which offers professional innovation support services to SMEs and start-ups active in the bio-economy. The support focuses on delivering industrial proof of concept for processes and a realistic business plan to overcome technological and non-technological barriers thereby stimulating the development of the biobased economy in North West Europe

The BioBase4SME network, representing leading bio-based economy experts, advises SMEs on how to develop new ideas into marketable products. The project will help start-ups and SMEs on their path to turn biobased research and innovation into commercial opportunity. BioBase4SME offers training, workshops, innovation coupons worth up to €100,000 and an innovation biocamp.

Bio-Innovation Coupon Scheme
Coupon values up to €100,000; 50-100% funded depending on the service provided. SMEs active in the bio-economy can apply for coupons on the following subjects or a combination thereof:

  •  Process development and scale-up in a state-of-the-art pilot plant (Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant, Ghent)
  •  Life Cycle Assessment (Materia Nova, Belgium)
  •  Green chemistry analysis, testing of new biomass as feedstock, application testing for fibres, colorants and coatings (facilitated by REWIN, NL)
  •  Market research, Value chain assessment, Business plan coaching (NNFCC, UK)
  •  Mentoring on social acceptance (AC3A, FR)
  •  Advanced anaerobic digestion, pyrolysis and gasification pilot-scale testing (tcbb-RESOURCE, Ireland).

A coupon is used to support a biobased innovation. The following criteria qualifies as ‘Bio-based’:

  •  the raw material is of biological origin or,
  •  industrial biotechnology (fermentation or biocatalysis) is used in the process.

“Bio Camp” – a fully-funded, intensive business training for biobased start-ups and entrepreneurs.
Start-up, biobased SMEs in the NWE area can benefit from fully-funded, intensive business training. With a value of €7,000 the intensive week-long BioCamp will give these companies the tools they need to commercialise their idea and grow their company. The training culminates in a live pitch to investors.
The course includes a series of lectures from experts in key aspects of business growth, such as value propositions, business modelling, financing growth and risk management. Each lecture is followed by group exercises mediated by an experienced facilitator. Participants will then work with mentors to apply this learning to their own company.

Apply for a place on the Innovation Biocamp, which will take place in Yorkshire, northern England from 23-28th July, 2017 via this link.
